Job Description

OVERVIEW

American Battery Technology Company (ABTC) provides technical development and commercialization of domestic, sustainable sourcing of critical battery materials through lithium-ion battery recycling and battery metal extraction technologies for use in batteries that power electric cars, grid storage applications, and consumer electronics and tools. Our first-of-kind systems produce commercial-scale battery materials that will be sold into the battery manufacturing supply chain to enact a low-cost, low environmental impact, and domestically sourced closed-loop circular economy. Our headquarters is in downtown Reno, Nevada with site locations in Sparks, Fernley, and Tonopah, Nevada.

ABOUT THE JOB

Are you looking for a role in which you will have a major impact on all levels of an organization? ABTC is looking for a well-rounded EHS specialist to join the EHS team to build out ABTC’s EHS program. This individual will work with and through all levels of the organization engaging floor employees to leadership. The positions will engage all aspects of the EHS program including- Environmental permitting and inspections, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, construction, waste management, safety program creation, and implementation of each one of these programs. If you are interested in growing your career, while simultaneously building an EHS program from scratch in a start-up environment this is the role for you.

This EHS Specialist will be based out of ABTC’s new Lithium- ion Battery Recycling facility located in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center in McCarran, NV. They will apply a risk-based approach to EHS to drive ownership of safety, health, and environmental impacts, with a focus on engagement, learning from events, training, and systems-level problem-solving. The EHS Specialist will develop, implement, and continuously improve programs within the EHS Management System framework in partnership with the broader site teams. They will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

·Assist in the development of an EHS management system in partnership with EHS leadership. Develop new procedures, inspections, trainings, or reports as needed.

·Actively work with site stakeholders to ensure that site and process changes result in improved controls of risks to health, safety and the environment.

·Perform audits and inspections, document results, and verify action and closure

·Analyze event trends and use risk-assessment methods to identify continuous improvement projects that reduce injury, illness and environmental impact events.

·Facilitate investigations from a Learning Teams approach, ensuring worker involvement and that preventative actions address system causes and not just focused on individual behaviors

·Participate in pre-job planning and verification of controls/safeguards before new, high risk, and non-standard work begins

·Monitor and administer EHS systems and tools used onsite (e.g., event reporting, performance dashboards, action trackers, management of change, etc.)

·Deliver EHS Training and facilitate workshops with onsite teams

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Required Qualifications

·Bachelor’s degree in safety engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health or related field

·Minimum 2 years' work experience as an environmental, health or safety professional, preferably in a manufacturing, oil & gas, construction, or similar workplace

·Experience working with cross-functional teams effectively thanks to teamwork, bias-toward action, front-loaded accountability, and empathy

·Experience supporting EHS program development, training all levels of personnel, and influencing/managing change to reduce risk and improve outcomes

·Experience with hazard analysis methods, hazard communication, powered industrial vehicle safety, OSHA compliance, event/incident investigation and learnings, and corrective action management

·Familiarity with industrial hygiene, industrial ergonomics, machine safety, environmental compliance processes

·Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and deadlines

·Excellent customer service skills

Expert proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Work, Power Point, Project, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

·Master’s degree in safety engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health or related field.

·Safety Certifications - Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
